Modern + vintage

29 September 2011

Greetings from north of Finland! ;) It's pretty cold and rainy up here, so I can totally imagine myself pairing these black Office pirate boots with this oh so darling 60s vintage cardigan for a walk about town. The lemon color is perfect for the fall season - so fresh and uplifting. It looks so cosy and warm too. A perfect match, I'd say! ;)

Ps. The Hemline Vintage Etsy shop is such a great place to find awesome vintage goodies - from home decor to shoes. You should definitely take a peek!

My pretty new vintage necklace

Hello pretties! Today's post is all about hearts! I flew up north this afternoon to visit my beau who moved up here couple of months ago to study. I'm going to be spending a long weekend here. Can't wait to explore my new "home" city. Another thing that puts hearts in my eyes today, is this vintage necklace I found at the flea market last weekend. It's kinda kitsch, but I think it makes such a fun accessory!

Jewelry I heart today - sponsor love edition

27 September 2011

Hi there lovelies! I want you to meet my beautiful friend and sponsor Christie from The Citybirds Nest. She's a bike loving avid treasure hunter and a crafter. And oh boy, she makes such pretty things - jewelry, illustrations and paintings. I'm such a fan of her Gold Rush collection and this light blue triangle necklace is my absolute favorite. It's funky and delicate at the same time. Me likes!!!

The heart of our apartment.

I love to hang out in my kitchen - not just to cook but to read, work on bloggy things and just have a chit chat with my flatmate over a cuppa. I think I've inherited this from my grandmother who is always spending time in the kitchen baking and making yummy foods. I want to be like her one day - the grandmother who smells of freshly baked cinnamon buns. Hih, I'm feeling all warm inside just by thinking about her.

What I like about my kitchen is that it's pretty much in its original shape from the 50s. And it was the actual reason why I wanted to buy our apartment. I just knew I belonged into that kitchen when I first saw it. Pure love at first sight! As much as I love my kitchen, I also love collecting vintage kitchenware. So I did a little Etsy window shopping and picked a few items that would look very cute in my kitchen.

What's your favorite room in your home? I'd love for you to share! If you're making a blog post, leave me a link here in my comments and I'll pop over for a visit. I like seeing how people decorate their homes. It always gives you so many ideas for your own home.

Ps. Polly from The Littlest Polly is having a giveaway on her blog at the moment. There's lots of pretties up for grabs - also a little blog makeover ala moi! ;) Hop on over to enter!

Out and about!

25 September 2011

Hey sweeties! I hope you've all had a great weekend so far. I've finally said good bye to my persistent cold. Good riddance and adios! So now that I've had more energy to do stuff, I've been hanging out with friends and just enjoyed my weekend out and about. Today I had a flea market date with my friend and we both made some great finds - I'll show you what I got next week! We also had a coffee in this cute pink cafe near my house. The pink color felt so refreshing after a rainy week!

Upcycled glitter jewelry DIY via Lemon Jitters

Look at these pretties! Aren't they just stunning! I came across Katie's blog Lemon Jitters the other day and it was love at first sight. Her DIY posts are just too cool. And this upcycled glitter jewelry DIY absolutely rocks my socks off. She has used her vintage watches as bracelets and made a necklace from a watch case that was missing a wristband, and added glitter inside the empty cases. That's so genius! I would have never thought of this myself.

Pop over to Katie's blog to read the whole tutorial. And be sure to check out her other DIY's as well - I'm loving the hair comb tutorial. It seems so simple to make that even I could whip one together. Happy weekend loves!

Sneezing the night away (+ some photo talk).

My iPhone photos from today

Hey bubbas! Guess who's still all poorly and trapped inside the apartment? Me. This silly thing is totally wearing me out and I'm about to go nuts if I have to lay low the whole weekend. Luckily the pup needs a walk couple of times a day, so I need to go out for some fresh air. I almost hugged the people passing me by on the street - it was so nice to see PEOPLE!! Hih ;) But our walk took it's toll on me, and I'm back under my blanket sneezing the night away.

One thing that has kept me company this week is Instagram. As many of you know they made a major update this week, so I've been playing with the new filters and effects. Not sure yet if I'm in love or not. There's some new filters that I love like Amaro, Rise and Hudson. But I'm so disappointed with the way they've changed some of the old filters. The colors and textures don't seem the same anymore. Or is this just me? Any of you having similar mixed feelings? To alleviate the pain from the update, I uploaded the Camera+. I'm starting to think that they'll make a good combo for editing and sharing photos on my iPhone.

Ps. Phew. This was probably the longest post I've written for a while. Can you tell I'm bored? ;)

Hand in hand.

- Audrey Hepburn

It's been a while since my last quote post. I'm still sick in bed, so I've had time to read a lot. And I love reading quotes. There's just something about them that always give me strength and comfort. And this quote by the wise Audrey Hepburn is perfect for me today. I agree with her 100%.

Jewelry I heart today - sponsor love edition

20 September 2011

Hi lovelies! Have you met my beautiful sponsor Savannah from Maie Dae? She makes the prettiest jewelry! When I entered her shop to make my jewelry I heart today pick, I was immediately torn between two super cute alternatives - this and this. But because I love the little rugged but dainty look, the vintage key ring took the winning place in the end. Isn't this just so sweet!

Voice. Please come back, I need you.

A swell sip // Monkey in Los Angeles

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today. I've completely lost my voice and have the worst head cold. Booo. A big booo. I've probably had 10 cups of hot tea and stayed put under a warm blanket, but it hasn't helped yet. In desperation, I searched "cure for cold" in pinterest and Earl's Cure popped up. Not only did I find a great recipe to say goodbye to my cold ( a dash of brandy must do wonders!) but also a beautiful blog Monkey in Los Angeles by Eva Goichochea. Oh yay! Eva's stunning corner of the bloggy world is filled with yummy food photos, recipes for swell sips and just pretty things that simply tickle my fancy - all so beautifully laid out. You should definitely pay her a visit! I'm adding her to my favorites just now!

Ps. I met my pretty niece for the first time this weekend! It was such an amazing feeling to be holding her - she's tiny! And guess what? I'm going to be her godmother too which is such an honor. I can't wait to see her grow up and be a part of her life! xxx

A to Z of me

15 September 2011

Hola! How are you today my sweet peas? It's still raining here... But not a worry in the world! I'm all snuggled up in my blanket with the pup warming my feet. Cosy! I've seen this A to Z meme going around the bloggy world and I thought it would be fun to join in and share a couple of nitty gritty details about me that you wouldn't otherwise necessarily find out. So here it goes.

A. Age: 27... for a couple more weeks.
B. Bed size: Double.
C. Chore that you hate: I hate doing to the dishes. But I always try to do them 1st thing after cooking, so I get them done.

E. Essential start to your day: A big mug of coffee. Or should I say a jug?!

Ooh la la!

Oh yes, I'm sold! The vintage belt and the bag are screaming my name. But I've banned myself from shopping this month, so I'll just have to settle with the oooooh-la-la's. Sad face. A very sad face. I will need to save my money for flying across the country to see my beau every month, so I'll try and remember that my shopping ban is for a good cause. Sometimes it's just REALLY hard. You know ;)

I'm a wellies kinda girl.

Hey sweet peas! How are you today? I hope you're getting to enjoy the sunshine! It's still raining here, but I don't care - I'm a wellies kinda girl. My wellies have been a total life saver today, because I hate getting my feet wet. And on top of being practical and all, they were looking mighty cute with my floral tunic. Can you believe that this is how I dress to the office?! Hih, I'm happy we have casual Friday every day.

Ps. The flower shot is taken at my beau's family summer house couple of weeks ago, when we went mushroom picking there. I thought it would go perfectly with my florals and wellies theme ;)

Hey sweeties! I came across some fantastic animated galaxy pretties by Galaxiesinshit on Neon Village the other day. Instant love! I thought it would be fun to make a color inspiration post based on one my favorites, so here it comes. The colors in this stunning gem image inspired me to put together a cute and casual autumn look to cheer me up on this rainy Monday. I adore the light olive suede boots. So so perfect fo autumn!

Weekend happiness.

11 September 2011

I've had such a fun busy bee weekend! I woke up early on Saturday when my flatmate left for work, so I decided to whip together some eggs for brekkie and do my Saturday-clean around the flat. Can you believe it - I had walked the dog, vacuumed and mopped the floors before 9 am? One of my favorite bands Marina and the Diamonds surely played their part in making all the household work less painful! When my flatmate got home from work, we decided that a girls night is in order and that my bangs need a cut. And that's exactly what we did - we had a fun girls night out and we cut my bangs. What do you think? I think they're kinda cute!

Today we've been enjoying the outdoors and explored one my favorite parts of Helsinki - Käpylä. The area is full of old wooden houses and pittoresk buildings. I just love it there! We also made a great new find. An antique shop packed with vintage gems. I'll need go back there SOON! I'm still to find a cool vintage chair for my desk. What have you been up to this weekend?

Ps. Oh I forgot to mention that those glasses I'm wearing in the pic - I tested them out over the weekend. And I'm really starting to like them. Do you think I should get them? A girl can never have enough of cool specs, right? Hih ;)

Jewelry I heart today

10 September 2011

Hey lovelies! Look what I found yesterday! I went on a little shopping spree after work yesterday, and I found the perfect autumn pretties from H&M. I absolutely LOVE my new ring - the pressed flowers are so stunning. I also found this orange crocheted beanie, that I'm sure will come very handy in the coming weeks as the weather is getting colder. Have you made any cute accessory finds for the fall?
